Teen Wolf Recap: “Chaos Rising”
Original Air Date (MTV): Monday June 12, 2013
Season 3 Episode 2

I’m starting to feel sorry for anyone who is a relative or friend of the main “Teen Wolf” cast members; then again, you can always come back to life after suffering and dying horribly, right?

Alison has become obsessed with hers and Lydia’s bruises, so, obviously, they have to find Scott. Meanwhile, Scott reluctantly gets dragged to a “sweet seventeen” birthday party, but – surprise! – it’s Stiles who is in birthday girl Heather’s sights. Wingmanless, Scott slips outside only to be cornered by Alison; what did he expect after ignoring all of her urgent texts and calls? Stiles quests for the elusive Condom of Consent, leaving Heather alone long enough to be terrorized alone in the wine cellar before something drags her out of a window.

Nobody likes “Uncle Peter,” but Derek needs him to extract the memories hidden in Isaac’s head. Peter gets a glimpse of who he thinks are Erica and Boyd, but seeing Deucalion unnerves him. Alison and Lydia endure Derek’s presence to get an opinion on their new body art, but he thinks it’s nothing; Scott’s wolf senses warn him of the Doublemint twins. After this week’s school lesson on “risk and reward” from the faculty coach – “Teen Wolf” promotes education; stay in school! – the Sheriff pulls Stiles aside to ask his son about Heather since he’s the last person to see her since she went missing.

Alison tries to figure out what the two-part bruise mark means while Lydia continues to stalk the Doublemint twins; she’s after the one who isn’t looking at the guys. Scott and Stiles bring in Dr. Deaton to help Isaac with his memory, using an ice bath to induce a half-transformed trance-like state. A convenient thunderstorm is my favorite perturbation of nature; isn’t yours? Isaac finally remembers that the vault inside the “abandoned” Beacon Hills First National bank is where the he saw Erica and Boyd, but Scott reminds Isaac that he told them Erica was dead. So who is the girl in the vault with Boyd?

Scott and Stiles pull an all-nighter trying to find a way into the bank vault; the Sheriff still hasn’t found Heather. After school, Scott and Stiles plan their bank break-in Derek, but Peter thinks it’s a bad idea. Meanwhile, Alison figured out that the logo was from the bank – exactly how did Isaac’s rescuer plan that far in advance to mark Alison and Lydia with an obscure piece of info like that? – and since Scott and Alison are still failing to communicate, she goes in all by her foolish lonesome.

The bank seems to be empty until Alison is intercepted by Ms. Morrell, telling Alison to hide in a closet and slip away when the fighting starts; Alison reluctantly obeys – that shouldn’t last long. Covering her scent by spilling ammonia on the floor, Alison discovers a body that looks a lot like Erica. Okay, we get it, she’s dead! Back at Derek’s place, Peter is being annoyed by Stiles’ wild speculations until something rings true; Peter realizes why the Alpha Pack might be using the vault.

No sooner than Derek and Scott smash in through the wall, Boyd appears out of the shadows but doesn’t look in control of himself. Stiles calls Scott to tell him that the vault is made with a mineral called hecatolite that scatters moonlight; anyone trapped in the vault hasn’t been able to transform for months, and they just opened the door to a full moon – whoops! Derek recognizes the woman in vault as his sister, Cora; as she tells him to get out, Ms. Morrell completes a circle that binds the werewolves inside. As the wolves begin to attack one another, Deucalion calls Ms. Morrell by a name we haven’t heard – Marin – just before she leaves on his arm.

Hearing the fighting, Alison heads toward the vault instead of away from it. Thinking she’s helping, Alison breaks the seal, freeing the frenzied werewolves into the night. Derek scolds Alison before prompting Scott to tell her what Alison’s mother actually was responsible for. Meanwhile, Lydia wakes up in her bed screaming bloody murder… but why?
