Review: The Dollhouse Family #1

Book Reviews, Entertainment News Comments Off on Review: The Dollhouse Family #1

The second story in Joe Hill’s Hill House collaboration with DC Comics arrives with The Dollhouse Family #1.

Things are not what they seem in this English family. Daughter Alice inherits a dollhouse from her mom Nell’s great aunt, and even with dad Pete’s protestations the little girl is allowed to keep it. Like most little girls, Alice quickly gives the doll family their names and stories, and they also provide her with an escape from her abusive father.

Naturally, nothing is what it seems with the dollhouse. When the dolls come to life and offer Alice a chance to come to visit, she jumps at the opportunity. And when the dollhouse offers her a chance to save her mother from her father’s increasingly violent behavior, she has a big decision to make and it leads her down a path from which she might not be able to return.

What’s more is that the dollhouse has a mysterious past with a terrifying legacy that goes back generations. This is a brilliant story from writer M. R. Carey that kicks off the second story in the Hill House imprint.
