The trailer for the 2018 Halloween is out and it is GLORIOUS.
It is now confirmed that the sequels, including those Jamie Lee Curtis starred in, are no longer canon. This movie will serve as a sequel to the first Halloween taking place several years later, as is clear when we see Laurie in the trailer.
It’s looking like a decent amount of Halloween II’s storyline is utilized, at least in the beginning of the film. Michael has been shot by his former psychiatrist and imprisoned. At some point, he is being transferred via bus and things go wrong and Michael escapes. A couple of refreshing new pieces to the story that we see are that two reporters (Journalists? Bloggers? Researchers? Let’s just call them reporters for sake of ease) go to visit and investigate Michael at the prison, where as they say in the trailer, he has remained in captivity for 40 years. The glimpse of the prison yard scene where the reporters meet Michael gives off strong Kubrick vibes if you ask me, amplifying the creepy factor substantially. The two prisoners out sharing the prison yard add to the creepy factor as well.. especially when one of the reporters shows Michael what he has brought with him: his mask. (Side note: you are either brave as hell or dumb as hell, sir)
The other new and refreshing piece to the puzzle is how ready Laurie is for her brother’s return. She has prepared her house to an almost obsessive, concerning degree and is very armed and very prepared to take Michael on when he arrives. While talking to a police officer, she says “Do you know that I prayed every night that he would escape?” and when asked why, she responds with a calm, WAY too matter of fact, “So I can kill him”. The lines of who’s the hunter and who’s the prey have been blurred and I am absurdly excited!
Halloween hits theaters October 19, 2018 and is in good hands with John Carpenter serving as executive producer, composer and most importantly, creative consultant.
