Something I look forward to most when it comes to conventions is seeing all of the cosplay, and WonderCon 2017 did not disappoint.
Being back in Anaheim March 31-April 2 after last year’s stint in Los Angeles was something many cosplayers were thrilled about due to the amount of space available both inside and out. Such space allows them to not only show off their work, but have their photos taken by the plethora of photographers that set up shop without having to worry about being cleared out by security due to clogged walkways or lack of space.
The area out in front of the convention center’s fountain is a perfect site for large group photos, which several took advantage of with scheduled meetups and photo shoots based on the different fandoms- DC, Marvel, Overwatch, Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts, Disney, and Star Wars to name just a few.
I think we can all agree that the mild springtime weather of WonderCon is nothing short of a blessing, especially compared to the hot and humid temperatures that typically come with events like San Diego Comic Con in July and DragonCon held in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend. Not having to worry about makeup or prosthetics melting off (I saw a Joker’s nose and chin melting off of his face at SDCC a couple of years back and let me tell ya, it was nothing to laugh at) or if your costume is going to give you heatstroke (shout out to the crazy Jon Snows running all over in their furs in July. Dedicated? For sure.. but making a strong case against themselves that they really do know nothing) is a thing of beauty. This is why I consider WonderCon to be one of the very best conventions to attend if you are into cosplay.
Here are some photos of our favorite cosplays from this year!
Excited for next year? WonderCon 2018 will be held March 23-25 at the Anaheim convention center. Time to start planning those cosplays!
