A man wanders alone in the woods. He seems unconcerned with destination. He camps in a drainage pipe and watches Walkers as they try to capture him. The solitude seems to be getting to him. When he finds the wreckage of a truck he gets on top and camps out as the Walkers walk past. Suddenly a group of cars approach. It’s Daryl and Glenn on a scouting trip. The man, Bob, tells them that he’s been alone after losing his companions. They ask him the three questions; he’s killed many Walkers but only one person, and only because she asked him to. Bob agrees to go with them to their camp, saying that it doesn’t matter who they are or where they’re going. Bob is done with being alone.
Maggie, Sasha and Bob are trapped in a dense fog surrounded by Walkers. They can’t see anything. As the Walkers converge, Bob gets bitten and he goes down. Maggie and Sasha fight them off, and Bob reveals that the Walker only got his bandage. He’s ok.
Daryl is helping Beth learn how to track. She sees tracks that zigzag along the ground and reasons that it must be a Walker. “Or a drunk,” Daryl teases. She follows the trail with Daryl’s crossbow aimed, and she sees the Walker in a clearing. Then she gets caught in a snare, but she shoots and misses his brain. Daryl takes it out and returns to help Beth, whose ankle is in bad shape.
Maggie and Company are still stuck in the fog. This would suggest that the timeline is skewed because Daryl and Beth are not stuck in fog. They need to keep moving before another herd comes through. Their compass is broken, but they can still use the sun.
Beth needs to take a break from walking, and fortunately they have come across a cemetery with a house beside it. Daryl offers Beth a piggy-back ride, telling her that it’s a “serious” one. They get halfway through when she sees a headstone that reads “beloved father.” Daryl somberly places some flowers on it, and the duo grasp each other’s hands.
The fog seems to be lifting, and that’s when Maggie spots a sign posted along the railroad tracks leading to Terminus. “Sanctuary to all those who survive.” Bob relates the tale that they heard the broadcast when they went out on the run to get supplies. Sasha is skeptical about going to a place so far away, but Bob and Maggie argue that Tyreese and Glenn might be there. “We don’t need a vote,” she finally says, walking toward the mysterious Terminus.
Daryl opens the door to the mansion beside the cemetery. He tells Beth to wait while he scouts around inside. The house is really clean, which suggests that someone has been keeping it up and might therefore be around. The mansion isn’t really a mansion. It’s a mortuary. Daryl takes Beth to the embalming room and wants to wrap her ankle. He makes a joke about dressing dolls, but she reminds him that the dead Walker on the table was once a person and deserved a burial.
Bob and Sasha have a chance to talk while Maggie gets firewood. He wants to know if she wants to stop, and she does, saying that she doesn’t want to die. What happened to them earlier in the day was a warning, and they need to pay attention. They have six bullets and Bob is hurt. She thinks Glenn is dead, and her idea is that they stay in the first town they come to. Bob isn’t convinced.
The mortuary’s kitchen is almost bare, save for a cupboard full of food. There’s no dust, which leads Daryl to suspect that this is someone’s stash. He proposes that they stay there for the night but they will leave most of the food for whoever it belonged to. Later, Beth plays the piano and sings. Daryl curls up in a coffin (the most comfortable bed he’s had in a while) and he encourages her to keep playing. This unlikely duo seems to be getting closer and closer.
Sasha wakes up to find Bob kneeling before a message from Maggie. She tells them in the message not to risk their lives to go with her. Bob wants to catch up, but Sasha hesitates. He manages to convince her, so they pack up. Maggie finds another sign for Terminus and is about to write a message on the wall when a Walker approaches. She takes it down and cuts its belly open, a wild look on her face.
Bob and Sasha walk along the tracks and Sasha keeps asking why they walk into danger instead of finding a safe place. Bob is happy not to be alone. He broke the streak of being lost and alone, which makes him happy. They come across the dead Walker and see that Maggie has left a note to Glenn using the Walker’s blood.
Daryl carries Beth into the kitchen to have breakfast. They hear a noise outside and Daryl goes to investigate. Outside he finds a one-eyed dog, but the dog won’t come inside. Beth comes to see it, which bothers Daryl, but she sagely points out that he said there was a dog. They are so cute together!
Sasha and Bob camp out near the tracks and all they can hear is the sound of Walkers all around them. “Bob, what the hell are we doing out here?” she demands. He wants to know why she thinks Tyreese is dead. Tyreese, he says, would head to Terminus for sure. Perhaps she’s afraid of finding out that he’s not alive.
Beth wants to leave the mortuary’s occupants a thank you note. Daryl suggests that they stay there for a while, and if they come back they can work it out. Beth teases him that he finally believes that there are good people around. She wants to know what changed his mind. They exchange a look, but the moment is lost when they hear the dog. Daryl goes to the door to find the place overrun with Walkers. They are separated as the place quickly fills with Walkers, and since it’s nighttime it’s pitch black in the house. Daryl faces down dozens of Walkers before escaping. He runs out into the night, surrounded by Walkers, and then a car starts. The car tears away from the mortuary, and Daryl chases after it, believing it to be Beth.
Bob and Sasha continue their march along the tracks. They find another message from Maggie.
Daryl runs along the road looking for the car. He comes to the road and finds the railroad tracks. He drops his crossbow and falls to the ground in defeat.
Bob and Sasha find a secure building in the first town they come across. Sasha wants to stop, but Bob insists that they keep going. Maggie is alone. Sasha says that Maggie made the decision to leave, but Bob says that they need to keep going. He gives her a pep talk, reminding her of how good it felt to be at the prison with other people. He thinks she’s afraid. He leans in and kisses her, and her eyes widen. “You don’t have to be alone again,” she tells him. He’s going to keep going, and Sasha watches him leave.
Sasha scouts the building, heading upstairs to the second level. It’s empty, and as she figured, it’s very easily defensible. Once she drops her backpack on the floor, though, she can’t stop the tears from falling. She continues to look around, though, and upon looking out the window, she sees Maggie sleeping on the ground between a few dead bodies. There are Walkers behind the truck, though, and when she goes to warn her, the window in the building falls out and crashes to the ground, signaling the herd of Walkers. Oh, crap.
Sasha gets on top of a car and starts clearing the way for Maggie to get into a defensible position. Once the Walkers are gone, Maggie, who is covered in blood, reveals that she heard Sasha talking at the camp about Glenn being dead. Maggie said Sasha was wrong, but she was at the town waiting for Sasha to come back. She needs her help. Maggie knows that Sasha is afraid, but she also knows what they’re fighting for. “So let’s go get Bob, and let’s get there,” Sasha agrees.
Daryl is sitting on the ground when he is suddenly surrounded by the same men who took over the house that Rick and Carl were staying in. He manages to knock their boss down, and the boss, Joe, laughs and says he admires Daryl. Daryl is now a part of their gang.
Bob is walking along the tracks when Maggie and Sasha catch up to him. It’s a happy reunion.
Meanwhile, Glenn sees the sign for Terminus and sets out to find it.
Well, that was quite the episode. In perfect TWD fashion, just as we’re loving the idea of Daryl taking care of Beth, they are separated. Did she really abandon him? Is she still at the mortuary? And what of Bob and Sasha? Is he right that Sasha is afraid of knowing whether or not Tyreese is alive?
There are only three episodes left this season, and there is still a ton left to come. Until next week, fellow Walkers!
