I don’t know what’s scarier…being chased by Walkers or being a member of the Russian hockey team…
But I digress.
As the Sochi Olympics wrap up, we also get to return to the land of Walkers. At present, the Walkers are chasing a balloon and some trucks. Tara writes down their location on her arm with a Sharpie pen. Abraham stops the truck and tells Tara not to fire her weapon. He gets out and starts killing Walkers. Tara has never seen anyone smile while killing Walkers. He pauses and tells her to get used to it.
Michonne approaches Carl as he eats breakfast at the table. He laughs at her choice of clothing. They exchange small talk about soy milk. It seems like a normal interaction. They seem to have a very close relationship. He tells her about throwing up after trying soy milk, but he stops when he mentions Judith’s formula.
Rick thanks Michonne for making Carl smile. He can’t be father and best friend to his son. She is up to the task. She wants to know what the plan is. Are they staying put or are they moving on? Michonne tells Rick to rest for another day while she and Carl go to get more supplies. They plan to fill some bags and get back quickly. Rick gives Carl his gun and asks if everything is ok. Carl is holding back but says he’s hungry. Clearly there is something he needs to say to his dad.
Rick returns to the house and puts the couch back in front of the door. He’s still weak after being unconscious for a day. After fixing his bandages, he gets cleaned up and goes to the bedroom to relax for a while.
Michonne and Carl make quick work of gathering supplies. She asks if he found any candy or comics. She found “crazy cheese” and is stunned when Carl doesn’t seem interested. She figures out that something is wrong. He says he’s tired, but there is more than teenage angst going on. She tries to lighten his mood by eating the cheese and playing Walker, but he doesn’t laugh. Michonne admits that she isn’t used to making teens laugh. She reveals that she had a three year old who found her hilarious. Now it’s Carl’s turn to be shocked. She never mentioned having a kid. He starts asking about her past, but she refuses to answer until they have made a sweep of the house they’re looting.
Meanwhile, Rick is resting in bed and he starts hearing voices. His eyelids flutter, suggesting that he’s dreaming. But when the voices get louder, it doesn’t seem like he’s dreaming anymore. Is someone there with him?
The voices get louder. Rick leaps from his bed and hides as the armed men raid the house. It sounds like there is a television on somewhere in the house, but it’s the men’s voices. One man goes into Rick’s bedroom and sweeps it. Rick hides under the bed and waits for him to leave, but the man lies down. Oops.
Carl asks what Michonne’s son’s name was. Andre Anthony, she replies. She tells Carl that her son was a handful “just like you” and tells him that he’d make a good cop. He wants to know how long it has been since she saw him. It happened after the change. She’s never told anyone, not even Rick, and Carl pledges to keep their secret safe. Carl finds a painting and gives it to her. She unwraps the painting and finds a portrait of a girl that has been vandalized. She goes down the hall to the bathroom, and through the next door she finds a child’s bedroom. She sighs in relief. There’s another room, and inside she finds a pink wonderland of a bedroom. There are two beds, and in them are the bodies of three children and their mother who must have killed them to protect them. The sight disturbs her tremendously, and as she rushes out she stops Carl from seeing the horror of what’s in the room. She tells him that there’s a baby inside just to keep him from going in himself. He stops and says that he got to choose Judith’s name. It’s possible that Judith is with Andre now, he muses. Michonne points out that they need to get back before Rick gets worried.
Rick’s would-be assailant is taking a nap on his bed. The man’s buddy wakes him up and demands that he give up the bed. The other room is full of kids’ beds. The men get into a fight and one man falls to the ground and sees Rick. It doesn’t matter, though, because the bed-stealer kills the other man.
Glenn wakes up in the back of Abraham’s truck. Tara offers him some water and gives him an update. They have been driving through the woods, killing Walkers as they go. Glenn asks if they saw the bus, but when Tara says they passed the bus three hours beforehand. Everyone was dead. Glenn demands that Abraham stops the truck, and when Glenn packs up and starts walking, Abraham tells him that in order to survive they need to complete their mission. The future may depend on it. Sergeant Abraham is on a mission with his comrade Rosita to get Dr. Eugene Porter to Washington. He’s a scientist and he might be the only person on the planet who can stop what’s going on.
Glenn wants to know what happened. Abraham said everything was classified, but they lost contact with the “muckity mucks” in Washington a few weeks back. They need Glenn’s help. Glenn apologizes and keeps walking. Tara assures Glenn that she knows how to get back to the bus. Abraham can’t believe that Glenn is walking away and tells him that his wife is dead and that they’ve all lost people. Glenn punches Abraham and insists that Maggie is alive. The men get into a fight and Rosita and Tara try to pull them apart. In the meantime, Dr. Porter sees a Walker emerge from the trees. He can’t get their attention so he gets a gun. He doesn’t seem to be the gun type, and as he fumbles with it, more Walkers surround them. He keeps firing, which gets Abraham’s attention. The group works together to shoot the Walkers, but in the process they shoot the gas tank. “Son of a bitch!” Abraham yells.
Rick has spent most of the episode under the bed. He keeps checking his watch to see when Michonne and Carl are due to return. He manages to get out of the bedroom and into Carl’s room. The ringleader bounces a ball as he walks from room to room. These seem to be the most unruly band of misfits ever. Dressed in leather and looking dingy, the ringleader gets within a foot of where Rick is hiding, and then he turns to leave. Rick can’t get out the window so he goes back and plays cat and mouse as the men take notice of Michonne’s newly laundered shirt. They start taking numbers on who will get to be with her first when she shows up. Finally he ducks into a bathroom and discovers one of the men on the toilet. Rick quickly strangles him before the man can grab a pair of scissors to attack Rick. Now Rick has a gun.
Rick manages to get a window open in the bathroom and sneaks out to the ledge. He can’t tell where the men are in the house so he could be discovered at any moment. He also has to find a way down from the second story. He makes it down and around the back of the house without being seen. As he gets near the front porch, Mr. Ringleader emerges from the house so that he can bounce his ball outside. Darn.
Abraham is under the truck trying to fix the leak. He tells the story of blowing up a camel in the desert. He can’t understand how Eugene managed to kill the truck. Eugene blames the gun. Glenn apologizes and wishes them well. Rosita decides to go with Glenn and Tara, and Eugene, who claims to be smarter than Abraham, says that they don’t know what lies to the North and so they should go back until they can find another car. Abraham reluctantly agrees.
The new group of Glenn, Tara, Rosita, Abraham and Eugene walk on through the woods.
Rick is waiting for Mr. Ringleader to get off the porch but he’s having a grand old time eating beans from a can and whistling. Rick can see Carl and Michonne approaching, so he prepares to launch himself up and take one shot at the man. But he doesn’t have to. The man he killed up in the bathroom has returned as a Walker, so when the men start shouting inside, Mr. Ringleader goes back inside and Rick runs off to join Michonne and Carl.
Abraham praises Glenn for being “persistent” but he still thinks he’s being stupid. He tells Tara that their work to save the world is more important than Glenn finding his wife. Tara tells Abraham that just because she’s following Glenn she isn’t a good person. She doesn’t know anything about him, either. Eugene knows how to stop all of this and Rosita would follow Abraham anywhere. “Just don’t lie,” she tells him.
Michonne, Carl and Rick walk along the railroad tracks. Carl and Michonne share crazy cheese. Rick sees a sign and stops. Once again it’s a sign for the mysterious “Terminus.” “Those who arrive survive,” it proclaims. Michonne asks Rick what he thinks. They all look at each other and agree to continue on.
So Rick and Carl and Michonne are on the move once again, and Glenn is still searching for Maggie with his new crew. And Terminus looms in the distance.
