The world of The Walking Dead is about to get a lot bigger, and that’s a good things for fans of Robert Kirkman’s zombie apocalypse.
After 15 years as a comic book, nine seasons of a television show with its own spinoff, numerous video games and webisodes, the world of The Walking Dead is about to get a lot bigger and it opens up a door of exciting possibilities.
In the case of The Walking Dead, it would seem that when one door closes another one opens. Such is the case of Rick Grimes, as actor Andrew Lincoln has left AMC’s flagship program and will appear in three made-for-AMC films in the future.
While Rick’s story will continue in the films, there’s new chances for life in TV specials, limited series and other new media and after the almost eight-year time jump in season 9 there are lots of stories that could be told to explain what happened over the years and how things came to be as they are.
For AMC, the added bonus of having the ability to create programming at its discretion is that it can now resurrect characters from the dead. After all, they might not be around in the show’s present, but they were alive at some point in the past and that makes it worth exploring. The possibility of limited series could be a great way for former characters to tell their stories. Fan favorite characters like Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) could get a miniseries to detail what happened in the days before he arrived in Atlanta on the way to Washington D.C..
With a whole new world of possibilities available, the sky’s the limit for The Walking Dead.
