Should we be concerned that Gotham hasn’t been picked up for a fourth season yet? Lucifer has already been renewed for a third season, so why the delay for Gotham?
There’s no question that Gotham and Lucifer have done well during their Monday night time slots on Fox. Both shows bowed for the winter break and returned briefly for three part story arcs in January, only to bow again for the midseason hiatus. Lucifer returns in May while Gotham returns on April 24th.
However, Lucifer was picked up for a third season in early February while Fox executives remain mum on Gotham’s season four.
Ratings have been steady for Gotham, which got a boost when Jerome Valeska, the young Joker, returned to the show after a long absence. Many fans believed that Jerome’s return will signal a whole new era to the show, which has been performing well but lacking that real spark that it needed.
Lucifer, on the other hand, has been performing well and was renewed for a third season immediately following the midseason finale. The show is getting hotter and hotter as Lucifer works to figure out how much of his life has been orchestrated by his dear old dad.
Given Gotham’s steady performance it’s more than likely that we’ll see a fourth season renewal, but the question will be when it comes. Will we finish season three knowing a fourth season is in the works?
