Touching Carrie Fisher tribute at Star Wars Celebration Orlando

The Carrie Fisher tribute at Star Wars Celebration Orlando was four minutes and fifty-six seconds of perfection.

With all of the excitement that came from the release of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer at the Star Wars Celebration Orlando, perhaps most notable was the Carrie Fisher tribute that took place on the first day of the four-day event celebrating all-things Star Wars.

We all knew it was coming. No matter how pumped we are for Episode VIII, the loss of Carrie Fisher in December 2016 hung heavily upon any celebrations taking place.

Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd stood in for her mother on Thursday, dressed in a Tom Ford dress made to resemble Princess Leia’s iconic white robes in Star Wars: A New Hope.

When fans were shown the Carrie Fisher tribute video, it was clear that the video was meant to make us laugh and remember Fisher for the wonderful person she was. While we’re all sad that Fisher is no longer with us, the tribute video celebrates her life and reminds us that she wouldn’t want us to be sad. That’s not Carrie Fisher’s way.

The almost five minute video features behind the scenes looks at Fisher on set and during interviews for Star Wars, and it also shows how no matter how much time passed, Fisher could still recite her lines from the original trilogy. George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Gwendolyn Christie appear in the tribute to share memories of Fisher, but again it’s all lighthearted and uplifting.

And that’s exactly how Carrie Fisher would have wanted it.
