The Walking Dead Season 3: New Cast Portraits

Entertainment News Comments Off on The Walking Dead Season 3: New Cast Portraits

The following contains spoilers for Season 2 of The Walking Dead.

With season three of AMC’s hit drama The Walking Dead less than a month away, fans are chomping at the bit (pun intended) to see their favorite characters (and zombies) back in action.  Promised to be darker than ever, season three features a brand new dynamic, as the tagline implies: Fight the Dead. Fear the Living.

We were given a small taste of that last season, as we watched Shane’s survival instincts degenerate into something truly sinister — ultimately leading to his untimely demise, zombie resurrection, and second untimely demise. On the other hand, we had Dale.  Dale, from the beginning, was the heart of the group; always quick to help and even quicker to remind everyone they were still human beings.  But Dale also met his death last season, after an impassioned speech about the necessity of retaining humanity in spite of the new nature of the world.  Looking at both, the lesson here is that neither Shane’s blatantly murderous survival tactics nor Dale’s pacifist philosophy is suited for this volatile world of zombies and people who are desperate to survive.  But what is?

With brand new characters added to the mix, along with the return of a fan favorite (Meryl is back!), the stakes continue to rise.  And…we’ve also been promised the death of another major character.  A question to ponder at this point is not only who will die, but who will kill.  After the events of season 2, it might be a mistake to assume the culprit is a walker.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 14th with 16 episodes.  In the meantime, check out these newly released cast portraits, along with the official trailer.  And stay tuned for our weekly coverage of the show, by DarkMedia contributing writer Sarabeth Pollock.
