Fans of The CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries may have to gear themselves up for a double-dose of their favorite vampires next season as EW.com broke the news yesterday regarding a spinoff series. Tentatively titled The Originals, the new show will star fan-favorite Joseph Morgan as Klaus as he “returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel.” Also set to star is actress Phoebe Tonkin as the werewolf Hayley.
And fans won’t need to wait long — the “backdoor pilot” will be incorporated into this season of The Vampire Diaries, airing on April 25th of this year. Following this, The CW will decide if it gets the green light, with Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec at the helm if it does.
