The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

Entertainment Comments Off on The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

by Frank Godbey Jr:

Sometimes while watching a movie you can see the subtle hints of whatever its agenda might be.  Could it be a social message, an environmental statement, or maybe a stanch political viewpoint?  Thankfully, this movie has NONE of that!  In fact, it’s apparent that this movie does not take itself too seriously.  It is an entertaining look at just about every backwoods, serial killer, hillbilly talking, promiscuous young adults, everyone must die a type of movie.  There have been many satirical horror movies that poke fun at the genre. I for one am not a fan of campy “B” type horror. I feel it does a discredit to the genre and makes it easy for others to not take the genre seriously. However, every once in a while, it is good to have a little fun with it. I feel this movie does that. The acting was well done and the storyline was interesting. although not always clear at times. There are moments that are not completely understood or made clear. Overall, there were no major questions left unanswered and you don’t feel lost at the end. Interesting little cameo by Sigourney Weaver near the end of the movie… not a fan of hers at all, but it was OK. Other notables were Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Richard Jenkins. All the actors did their roles well and Fran Kranz was enjoyable as the pot smoking comic relief of the film. All in all I would give this about 3.5 stars and say that it is worth a rent on DVD. I give it a little extra credit for being somewhat original in it’s thought process!
