Teen Wolf Recap: “Currents”
Original Air Date (MTV): Monday July 15, 2013
Season 3 Episode 7
Has anyone considered thwarting the Darach with insect repellent and moth balls?
Scott’s mom, Melissa, has her hands full at the hospital with the victims of a multi-car accident, yet neither the on-duty ER doctor or on-call doc is available. After dropping off lunch for his mom, Scott helps one of the victims with his healing ability – remember that? – just before Ethan brings in Danny having chest pains. Danny throws up with noticeable bits of mistletoe… eww. Melissa saves Danny by inflating his lung; you sure you’re playing on the right team, Ethan? Outside, one of the doctors’ cars roll into another vehicle, but the only thing found inside is a dead moth; it looks like the Darach is busy again tonight, and the sheriff has found another body already as well.
Melissa wakes up with Isaac and Scott in her room “guarding” them, but they had both fallen asleep. At school, Scott gets a frightening phone call: Dr. Deaton is calling to say he’s being taken, and he’s counting in Scott to find him; evil moths are everywhere! Meanwhile, Derek learns he’s about to be attacked, so Isaac and Boyd skip classes to help. They have a plan: flood the room and electrify the floor. Scott tries to get to Dr. Deaton before he’s gone, but the sheriff is already there; Stiles called his dad, and he wants to know everything. Seriously, how is this Darach manhandling all these people? While Stiles agrees that the sheriff needs to really know what’s happening in Beacon Hills, Ms. Morrell appears at the vet’s office and suggests the only person who can really help find Deaton is Lydia.
Back in school – wow, at least someone on Teen Wolf stays the entire day – Lydia and Aiden are macking in the coach’s office until the fire alarm goes off. Aiden leaves just before Cora comes in and blocks Lydia, warning her off Aiden, but Stiles gets there before the clawing starts. While the three of them start trying to jump-start Lydia’s “ability” with Ouija boards and psychometry, Scott arrives back at school to find Deucalion waiting for him. The head alpha offers to help Scott out; it turns into just another one of his games, but he gives Scott a clue to finding Deaton: “Let thecurrent guide you.”
After the sheriff reveals that Dr. Hilyard was found dead Melissa shows the sheriff another recent body when he tells her that; she’s certain the victims hung by their wrists, causing them to suffocate without the strength to pull themselves up to breathe. Meanwhile, Allison was about to show something she found to Scott, but Daddy Argent comes home, prompting them to hide in the closet – and have a little moment to themselves. Once he leaves, Allison shows Scott a map her daddy is making marked in hidden ink with the locations of bodies found… and where they maybe found. Stiles rummages through Danny’s backpack at the hospital and finds a physics report about telluric currents in Beacon Hills.
Currents, you say?
Back at Derek’s place, someone cuts the power; so much for that plan. A barefoot Kali walks in with Jennifer, the Doublemint twins threatening to kill her if Derek doesn’t fight Kali alone. Lydia, Stiles, Cora and Scott compare notes, realizing the significance of the currents being where the bodies are found and the victims are killed. Cora realizes Deaton is probably being held in the same bank vault Boyd was trapped in, also over a current line, but a text tells them Derek is in trouble. Scott goes for Deaton alone but a ward keeps him from reaching his boss; Deaton sees Scott’s eyes turn red in an unsuccessful attempt to force himself through the barrier.
The sheriff appears – having recognized the the bank symbol on vials in Deaton’s office – and severs Deaton’s ropes with a clean shot. Great detective work, sheriff, but how much does he really know? Scott texts the Scooby gang to throw the power switch again while Isaac gets to Jennifer, but Kali and the twins force Derek to impale Boyd on his claws, killing his own pack member. Allison has found Gerard, but what does she wants from him? While the sheriff calls an ambulance, Deaton tells Scott about the red eyes, that a beta can become an alpha, a true alpha, by virtue and sheer force of will. Deucalion isn’t after Derek; it’s been Scott he’s wanted all along.
So long, Boyd; say hi to Ennis and Erica for us.
