There is only so much the show Supernatural can squeeze into each hour long episode, let alone elaborate and describe the thoughts of each character. The storylines are rich with history and intriguing villains, so much so that you wish you could linger in the action for a bit longer. Well folks, your wish has been granted, courtesy of Titan Books, who have put out a book called Fresh Meat, written by Alice Henderson. Available in paperback, or ready for download, this entertaining read delights fans of the CW’s hit show, Supernatural.

After a series of brutal attacks in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Sam and Dean seek to eradicate not only a vicious wendigo, but also a hungry aswang that resides in the weather-fickle forest. The string of clues connected to the infamous Donner Party incident lead the Winchesters down a path to discovering this origin of evil. Assisted by Bobby Singer and also by the help from local “hunters”, the Winchester brothers must not only face these evil adversaries, but also the cruelty of the icy elements. The lush description of every action places the reader in the middle, experiencing every putrid scent and heart-pounding danger that the Winchester’s must face in order to eliminate evil. With so much attention to detail, the author allows us to become “hunters” ourselves and safely peer into the dark underworld of demons and monsters. Although we can’t turn our eyes away from the gruesome discoveries, we learn to appreciate the bravery “hunters” must possess in order to effectively solve each case.

For any fan of the Supernatural T.V. show, this story takes place during Season 7; the time Castiel vanished after he unleashed the Leviathan, also while Sam was struggling with the visions of Lucifer in his mind. If that doesn’t sell you, how about the fact that Bobby is still alive?! I knew that would get you! Prepare yourself to be treated to the familiar humorous banter between Sam, Dean, and Bobby. This book is a must for all Supernatural fanatics. If you are not familiar with the television show, then this book explains enough to help guide you along the subplot. So, prop your feet up, devour a piece of pie, and dive into Fresh Meat with your favorite brotherly duo!
