If you find yourself suffering from hiatus withdrawals of the CW’s show Supernatural, then fret no more. Author Tim Wagonner hits the proverbial nail on the head with his rendition of the Winchester brothers in the book, Supernatural: Carved in Flesh, available now in both Kindle format and paperback. For those readers not privy to the Supernatural television series, Sam and Dean Winchester are hunters of all creatures that go bump in the night.
Supernatural: Carved in Flesh takes place during season 7 of the television series, so Sam and Dean are hot in pursuit of the Leviathan leader, Dick Roman. A peculiar story about a vicious wild dog attacking people manages to pique Sam’s interest and leads him and a reluctant Dean to Brennan, Ohio to investigate the case. This giant dog, or “Frankenmutt”, (as Dean puts it) turns out to be a patchwork of ancient magic and modern day science that ultimately leads the brothers directly into the path of an even bigger debacle. Strange experiments have developed hideous abominations, and it is up to the Winchesters to seek out the source and destroy it.
I would highly recommend this book to any fan of the Supernatural television series because the witty banter between Dean and Sam is spot on. And honestly, the relationship between the brothers is the core of the entire series. Wagonner has successfully managed to capture the brotherly love that actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have fine tuned over the course of 8 seasons. On top of that, the scientific storyline in the book is an area rarely explored in the T.V. series. This book contained enough content to make for an exciting full-length feature film. Even though the story stays true and accurate to the series, any reader can easily follow along with the book. You don’t have to be completely immersed in the Winchester sub-culture to fully understand and engage in the adventure. Pick up or download a copy today…and carry on my wayward sons.
