Sons Of Anarchy S7E10 “Faith and Despondency” Recap

Sons of Anarchy (FX) Comments Off on Sons Of Anarchy S7E10 “Faith and Despondency” Recap

Our opening, Crow Lovers, starts with Jax having fully on sexy time with a mysterious, new lady… This turns out to be our theme as we catch Gemma and Nero too, in flagrante delicto. Venus and Tig are next up, in a position that can only be seen and not described… Jarry and Chibs get some work in… Rat and some random chick (not Brooke, tsk, tsk).. Happy and some happy girl… Wendy goes the machine aided route…, Tully in lock up, is having his way with poor Juice(!)… It only gets worse for that poor guy..

We finally see after the deed is done that  Jax is with former Greensleeves BB/Diosa newbie, Winsome. He begins to cry. Winsome says she knows about Tara and says she’s sorry. Winsome starts to leave but Jax asks her to stay. He definitely doesn’t want to be alone.

After the open, Nero and Jax at Diosa  are talking about the aftermath of Bobby’s death. Nero tells Jax he’s selling to Alvarez.  Jax seems a little hurt that Nero might have gone behind his back. Nero says he’s just “exploring his options.” Jax asks him abou the tfarm, wondering if the BizLat OG is really ready to get out of La Vida Loca. Nero says its time. Winsome comes in and asks Jax about the clerical work he has for her. Nero comments after she leaves about Jax seeing the vulnerable side of her. Jax replies he lies his women complicated and damaged (don’t we all, brother).

Jax also says he’s not ready to lose Nero, but Nero says its needed. The time has come for him to step away but he emphasizes to Jax that his door is open for him, Gemma and the boys.  Jax sees Rat letting out his Diosa girl. Rat tries to tell Jax about his reasoning for the one-nighter given his coupled status, but Jax says it’s cool. Instead he turns to business, telling Rat to handle the meetup with Tully and the ABs along the Pastor’s wife move.

After Rat departs, Winsome returns back with the filing Jax wants done Jax seems to be taking a liking to the former Oakhoe newbie. They share a moment almost too tender for a guy who pays her to have sex with other dudes. But hell, he’s been here before, right? She says she can see that Jax is hurting… Winsome also tells him he is a decent dude with a good heart. Whoa! Could Sutter be throwing the biggest curveball of them all in these last four episodes? A happy ending (in a manner of speaking) for Jax ?

Venus and Tig, who is pretty drunk, are getting ready for their separate days. Venus tenderly asks if Tig will be back that evening. A messed up Tig, obviously mourning Bobby, wanders out while Venus faces the mirror. The contradictions present there for Venus leave the scene in silence.

At the cabin, Pastor’s Wife and SK are antsy, constantly asking Quinn and Montez when they can get back to Oakland. Quinn grimly states they will leave when Jax gives the go ahead.

At Gemma’s, Abel comes to the breakfast table with a strange scratch. When questioned about it, he blames it on Thomas. Everyone present just shrugs their shoulders. But when Courtney Love’s character sees at school, she goes to make out a mandatory report to CPS (there’s a cheap joke to be made about CL’s real life relationship with Francis Bean here, but we’ve obviously matured after seven seasons).

In lock up, Tully and Jax meet… Tully says it will take him a few days to get Lin in the right spot to kill him. Jax in the meanwhile, is set up with Otis, one of Tully’s ring leaders in the heroin game. While at the table, Tully brings up his “dalliance” with Juice. Jax shrugs and says Juice can use some loving.

Tyler and Moses meet up…August Mark’s point man says he need intel on PW and SAMCRO. He also warns Tyler against playing dumb, saying he knows that the One9ers and the club are tight. He wants some useful info and now Tyler gives on the GBs, says he know where they hang in Oaktown… Moses says they will ride together to find out the story.

We tune in on Abel at school, in the bathroom. He goes into a stall and closes the door.  In his lunchbox, he has a fork. Is Abel hurting himself? He pulls up his sleeve.

On the road, the club meets with ABs out at the old White Supe farmhouse. There, they meet Otis, who states they are waiting for one of the club’s old friends, Leyland. A party is going on… But typically, when you party with White Supremacists, you drive with Hitler (or something like that).

The former AB problem child from a few eps. ago is onsite. And he knows about Tig and Venus. He goes into typical TV redneck homophobe territory and blows Tig up in front of everyone over his relationship. Tig goes hard, shooting him in the groin. In the Alamo style standoff, he lets slip that Leyland is on his way to kill Eglee. The club busts out headed for Charming Hospital.

At GBs handout, Rat is with T.O. and the rest of the GBs as they get rolled on by Moses’ men. Tyler stands helplessly as they take Rat and T.O. with them in their cars to the catacombs.

At the hospital, Leyland comes in to hit Egelee in ICU. Leyland makes his way stealthily into the unit, gains access to the cop’s room only in to find Egelee gone out of bed. The shower is going… Leyland creeps in, gun at ready as he pulls open the shower curtain.  Wayne is there behind him, armed. A struggle ensues. Unser has to put Leyland down… Not bad for a dying man.

After the break, Jarry and Unser talk about the shooting’s aftermath. Unser plays cool on the club’s tip to him about the danger to Eglee. Jarry blasts him for protecting the club, (a little hypocritically, methinks) but lets him walk out to talk to the boys. Out in the hall, Unser lets Jax hear about it. It’s the first kill for him and he’s not happy how it went down. Jax assures that no more ABs are coming. While they argue, Chibs gets a call. He tells Jax that Child Protective Services has been called to Abel’s school.

In the catacombs, Moses comes into to a tied up Rat and T.O. and makes it plain. Talk about where the Pastor’s Wife is or end up like Bobby. His men go to work after that.

In lock up, Juice gets a package with a book, some blow and and a jar of Vaseline in it. Suddenly, that horrible death he was facing doesn’t seem so bad compared to his current situation.

At the school, a frantic Jax meets up with Gemma. The CPS workers are there as well. Abel comes in with his teacher, shows the adults more cuts and blames Gemma in front of CPS.

In the catacombs, Moses bring in a grapefruit spoon and says he will use it on both of them until one of them snitches. T.O. says he will give Moses the location of the cabin where the club has the Pastor’s Wife. Moses, in a Malcolm X moment, says that he’s sad a brotha broke down before Rat.  Tyler wiggles out of riding to the kill site.

At Gemma’s, the family brain trust is in full crisis mode.  Jax has a “Come to Jesus” moment about the boys’ well-being. He knows that Abel is lying, but he also knows that something is very wrong at Gemma’s. The boys have to be with him at his house while he finds some professional help for poor Abel. Wendy will take charge. Gemma is to not be alone with them. The matriarch is too stunned to object.

On the road, we see that T.O. has sent Moses and his crew to the ABs’ party house… Where is General Ackbar when you need him?

In the catacombs, Tyler drops the guard for Rat and T.O. when he turns his back and frees the pair.

At the White House, a wary Moses has his men check the perimeter. The house and detached shed are empty. With caution, they approached the battered trailer in the back. The trap is sprung as the trailer blows up with the opening of the door. Jax, the club and the ABs ambush the survivors, cutting the élite hitters to shreds and leaving a wounded Moses in his power.

It’s Moses last stand as Jax stands over him. Moses commends him on his tactics right before the SAMCRO leader gouges out his eye. Very biblical.  But Jax isn’t done following the Lex Talonis as Chibs comes and cuts off the fingers of Moses’ right hand. As the soldier screams in pain, Jax double taps him. A round of “Go down, Moses” was never more appropriate.Sad to see such a good dresser go.

After the break and after night fall, Jax and Otis bond up. The drug dealing partners who kill together have a ties that binds. After they have a moment, Tyler comes rolling up with Rat and T.O. The untied group exchange affections and compare bruises. Another plan has come together.

At the cabin, PW and PK get okay to move from Montez. The Pastor’s Wife is overcome with emotion as they hear their arch enemy Mark’s has been dealt a great blow.

At the hospital, Eglee and Unser have a moment while watching TCM. In lock up, Tully and Juice are sharing some quiet time as Tully reads a loud as he nuzzling up to a coked-up Juice (no, you guys, Tully is not reciting the lyrics from “The Beautiful People”).

At Jarry’s, the Chief and Chibs and have a bad moment. After Chibs plays it cool about Unser’s role in Leyland’s death, she tries to break up with him in a manner so over the top that it makes us hope that Annabeth Gish is trying to portray a non-actor overacting.  Chibs starts to leave, Jarry asks if he’s giving up on them that quickly.  Instead of saying “Hell Yes!” Chibs tells Jarry why their relationship is so good… Because, of course, they are so bad for each other. It gets a little 50 Shades of Grey after that… Hey, I thought that was the other guy on SOA’s thing!

Tig gets over to Venus to find the apartment in the dark… Venus is in that darkness and says s/he knows why Tig is going hard. It’s his love of the outcast and unusual that draws him to Venus. But s/he is emotionally involved with Tig, Venus can’t play this for laughs. This is her/his life, despite how through the looking glass it appears from the outside.

Venus says s/he need some distance. Tig says Venus sees it all, that he is his real self with Venus, no barriers…..  And he isn’t leaving but wants to proclaim his love for him/her to everyone. Venus calls him “Alexander,” which I believe is a first for the show.

The level of emotion in this improvised by Kim Coats and Walter Goggins is impressive.  I can’t recall offhand a similar take on the subject matter at hand, which could have been terribly stupid or unwatchably bad. It’s neither, which shows the high level of acting these men get to.

At Gemma’s, Brooke is patching up Rat. Nero sees his injuries and flashes, saying that they have to be ready for possible retaliation. Brooke stands by her man, telling Nero to leave him alone. Gemma is puffing in the bedroom when Nero comes in. Nero tells her he is almost ready to leave.  Gemma says she is ready to go, says she needs to roll, that she doesn’t know who she is anymore. As she breaks into sobs, Nero says she’s his girl.

At Jax’s house,  Wendy and Jax talk Abel. Their strange relationship comes to a huge point as Abel comes in and asks for water. Jax takes this moment to tell Abel the truth about Wendy, telling him that Wendy is his biological mother. Timing is everything, apparently…..

Wendy and Jax hug it out. She’s hugely grateful for what he’s done. He goes in to tucks Abel in. The revelation seems to have lightened the burden on the youngster, But it also has raised new issues for Abel. He asks his father if Wendy is his “first mommy,” is that why his grandmother killed Tara? A floored Jax tries to digest his son’s words as the Reaper makes his bow…

Man, Crow Lovers, it’s hit the fan! How will Jax sort out Abel’s cryptic words? Will Gemma finally reach the end of the road? Will Tig and Venus go on that dinner date? Will Tully say it with flowers? Or is Juice about to go Psycho Killer? If you hung around for the “Anarchy Afterword,” you got some spoilers for next week, but if you didn’t, mayhem is coming in full effect… Next week’s ep. promises to be as loose as Tommy Flanagan read-through, so don’t miss a minute and Fly Straight…
