At first glance, Ken Boyd may seem like an average comic book geek, living with his mother and working at an ice cream parlor to make ends meet. But Ken has a dirty little secret: He fantasizes about killing people.
For a long time I would not watch horror movies that were comedies or dark comedies. The reason being, I felt like the horror genre has taken enough trashing because of all the stupid, poorly acted and written, laughable “B” horror movies out there and that’s why horror isn’t taken as seriously as it should. I realize that there are many people who like “B” horror movies, but I don’t. I think when a horror movie is meant to be “scary” and you end up laughing throughout the movie, then there’s a problem. However, I broke down a few years ago and watched two Dark comedies: The Cottage (2008) and Otis (2008). I found both of these movies to be quite funny and very gory as well. It just seemed to work for me and I have been a fan of the dark comedy genre ever since. I still HATE “B” horror movies that aren’t supposed to be funny, but are. The movie, Some Guy Who Kills People starts off a little slow, but it doesn’t take too long before it really captures your interest. The main character played by Kevin Corrigan is your typical down and out loser who still lives with his mother (Karen Black). Corrigan does so well with even the smallest of facial gestures to make him seem so believable in the role. He plays a talented artist who draws very dark and gory death scenes of those that have abused him in the past. That’s where the story centers around, the cruel things certain of his high school classmates did to him that ended up putting him in a mental hospital. Barry Bostwick plays the town’s sheriff and is great in his role. Bostwick is not the “silly” mayor in Spin City, but a somewhat smart, yet sarcastic, punch line throughout the movie. Karen Black is just as good as the nagging, bitchy, disappointed mother to the Corrigan character. There are many twists to the movie that keep you entertained and guessing throughout. Highly recommend this very well written and thought-out movie. Plenty of laughs and a good amount of gory to please everyone!
