Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is back in an all-new four-part comic miniseries from Dynamite. In The Shape of Elvira #1 there’s something fishy going on.

The Shape of Elvira #1 is a fun start to the four-part miniseries from David Avallone. Anyone who knows the Mistress of the Dark’s body of work will appreciate how this story celebrates Elvira’s quick wit, dark humor and ability to make anything sound naughtier than it should.

In the debut issue Elvira goes to meet Bully Bullworth, the eccentric director behind some of the most well-known genre films. She has to navigate the enigmatic director’s house until she discovers that his new movie is more than a monster movie. There’s a big twist when it comes to Elvira’s new costar, but it’s nothing that she can’t handle.

This is a really fun story that really captures Elvira’s trademark sarcasm and wit. The art, from Fran Strukan, is clean and sharp and perfect for this book. The story is a clear parody of Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning movie The Shape of Water but it has a classic Elvira horror movie vibe that will appeal to the Mistress of the Dark’s fans and anyone who enjoys horror and comedy.

Incidentally, there are 14 covers to celebrate the advent of this new Elvira adventure. The variant covers are a lot of fun and play on some of Elvira’s best looks over the years.
