The countdown to SDCC begins with the raising of the banners!
This year the banners advertising the pop culture juggernaut San Diego Comic Con feature Marvel’s upcoming movie Doctor Strange.
The annual hanging of the banners is the first sign of SDCC around San Diego and is usually followed by wrapped signage on the Trolley and hotels. The SDCC banners run the length of Harbor Drive, from the airport to the Convention Center, and throughout the Gaslamp Quarter.
Disney owns the rights to the banners, and in previous years they have featured Ant Man and Big Hero 6. Doctor Strange is headed for theaters in November. Benedict Cumberbatch leads an all star cast, but the film has already met with controversy with the decision to eliminate the Ancient One’s Tibetan roots and move instead toward Tilda Swinton’s Celtic roots, a move purported to avoid upsetting the precious Chinese box office. Fans can expect a Doctor Strange panel at SDCC, likely in Hall H.
Given that we’re still over a month away from SDCC, it’s fun to see SDCC starting to creep into the Downtown landscape. SDCC runs July 21-24.
