Sandman Universe #1 Variant Cover Art Released

Book Reviews Comments Off on Sandman Universe #1 Variant Cover Art Released

Sandman is coming back and he’s bringing company. From the house that Vertigo built we get to revisit our favorite characters come August 2018. We know Neil Gaiman will be at the helm of this masterpiece but he, too, has brought some company.

Welcome back Dream, Death, Desire, Destruction, Destiny, Despair and last but, not least (even if she is the youngest) Delirium. They make up everyone’s favorite family The Endless. We can find these fine folks in the Sandman Universe

Several original Sandman alumni are along for the ride, providing variant covers for Sandman Universe # 1. This one shot will take place after the original series and thanks to Syfy Wire’s exclusive look, we can now start fawning over the gorgeous artwork.

The Wonder Woman of watercolor Jill Thompson has created my favorite cover of the new series. She’s best known for Scary Godmother and her award winning work on the graphic novel Wonder Woman: The True Amazon. But, my favorite are her Little Endless books. Now Jill has invited her Little Endless to play in the Sandman Universe.

The ever eclectic Sam Kieth was the artist on issues 1-5 of the original Sandman comic book. His fantastic pencils laid the groundwork for some of the most original character designs.

Comics master of mixed media David Mack once again lends his paintbrush to Neil Gaiman’s mighty pen. The two have previously collaborated on several pieces of Neil’s poetry.

The Dream Hunter himself P. Craig Russell has worked with Neil for over 25 years, including such masterful projects as Coraline, The Graveyard Book and American Gods. Over the years he has illustrated numerous Sandman stories including the 2008 gem Dream Hunters.

Look for DC Comics’ Sandman Universe #1 August 8, 2018 at your local comic book retailer. I’m getting the Jill Thompson variant cover. Which one are you going to buy?
