Revenge Recap: “Penance”
Original Air Date (ABC): Sunday November 11, 2012
Season 2 Episode 7
Penance for me has always been about going to the priest and telling him him the naughty things I had done. Then he tells me to say ten Hail Mary’s or Our Father’s and I’m all good. Emily has a different view. Penance, according to Emily, is a voluntary punishment to show remorse for a sin. Something you inflict on yourself to make up for what you’ve done. The severity of the punishment you decide, depending on the severity of the sin.
Mason comes to visit Emily. He’s not going to let the Amanda/Emily thing go. He has a picture of the two of them at Allenwood. He thinks they were lovers and that’s the scandal. Oh please! That kind of stuff isn’t scandalous anymore. Mason also goes to Amanda with this information. Amanda is flipping out. She doesn’t want anything to get in the way of her and Jack being happy. Something has to be done about Mason.
The Initiative is in the Hampton’s we know because they got Conrad out of jail. Emily tells Aidan he’s only got 24 hours to position Daniel in charge of Grayson Global. The prosecutors are going to drop the case. Daniel is still trying to find information about David Clarke’s investment in Nolcorp. Kara has decided she’s going to Colorado Springs. Before she goes, Daniel asks her if she has any of his personal records from then. Victoria is listening but Kara tells her the government took everything and if not, David hid it well. Aidan goes to see Nolan about getting confirmation about David Clarke’s involvement in Grayson Global. Nolan gives up his check only after he is sure that Aidan wants to help Emily. Nolan promised her dad that he would protect Emily. He’ll even destroy his own business to do it.
Party at the Grayson’s. All important investors are there. Aidan calls Daniel to tell him they have the proof they need. While Conrad is making a speech trying to convince everyone that all will be ok, Daniel is gathering a meeting of his own. He’s passionately letting the stockholders know that by giving his father a vote of no confidence and putting him in charge, the company will make millions. While Daniel is making his speech mom comes to listen. Conrad is finished speaking but Ashley actually does something for Daniel and reminds Conrad about a question and answer time.
Mason shows up at the bar to talk to Amanda. She’s still freaking out and has decided to take matters into her own hands. Amanda tells Mason that Emily is a psycho stalker and has been infatuated with her ever since Allenwood. She tells Mason she’ll meet him back at his place later to explain everything. Mason better look out. Nolan goes to see Emily and tells her that he has given her father’s check over to Aidan. He said her and her father are the only real family he’s ever had. If he has to give up everything to protect them, he will. Nolan is one stand up guy!
Amanda is at Mason’s and sees all of his detective work and how everything leads back to Emily and Amanda. She has him completely convinced that Emily is crazy. Amanda is about to crack him over the head with a heavy object when Emily bursts in. Luckily for Mason, Amanda told Jack the truth about where she was going. Jack had called Emily to get the phone number when Amanda wasn’t home and Emily knew what she was up to. Mason owes Emily his life. Emily tells Mason that she is Amanda Clarke. She is furious that he lied and had her father falsely convicted and her life ruined. He apologizes but he must do his penance. He’s now in debt even deeper with Emily. Nolan calls Emily and tells her that mom has decided not to get on the plane and is headed back to the Graysons. Emily wants her out of the Hampton’s. Emily has Mason call Kara and meet her because he has information on Gordon’s murder. Mason meets Kara while Emily listens in and tells him what to say. Mason starts out all right but then he starts to ad-lib. At first he just tells Kara that Gordon would want her to get away from the Graysons and she should go. Then Mason thinks he needs to come clean. He tells Kara that his first book was a pack of lies. David Clarke was a good man and the Graysons paid him to lie. Emily is yelling at him to stop. Saying that Kara is off her meds and she can’t handle this. Emily is right. Kara decides to head back to Grayson Manor and take care of a few things.
Kara messes with some of the security cameras at the manor taking them offline. Emily calls Aidan and tells her that Kara is there and he needs to get her out of there. Aidan tells Emily to disable all the cameras and he’ll take care of it. This is a big deal because Emily doesn’t like to give up any control. Aidan tells her to trust him. She does and the cameras go black. Victoria calls Conrad up to her suite, but he was already on his way being guided by a gun and Kara. Kara wants to know what they did to David. She turns on Victoria and says she probably didn’t even really love him. Conrad tells Kara, it was all me. I was pissed at him for taking away my wife. You must understand, he says to Kara. While he’s speaking Victoria is trying to get the gun out of her purse. Kara already has it. Being off her meds might make her impulsive but it sure doesn’t make her stupid! Victoria going for the gun ticks Kara off. Victoria tells Kara that Gordon murdered David. Kara doesn’t believe until she sees the picture. So was Gordon just playing her this whole time too? Kara can’t take anymore. She tosses black blindfolds at Victoria and Conrad and orders them to get down on their knees facing away from her, with the blindfolds on. As she stands there ready to shoot, I’m assuming, Aidan comes up behind her. He takes Kara out with chloroform and leaves the Graysons kneeling there not knowing that she is gone.
Kara wakes up in Emily’s car. Aidan is there. They play Aidan off as an agent and they tell Kara that they will take care of all this and she just needs to go. This all is killing Emily. Emily asks her if there’s anything she wants her to tell Amanda. Kara just says that she wishes she could’ve been a better mother. Aidan asks Emily if she wants him to stay with her. She tells him no, she has on last thing to do for the day. Aidan goes back to business at the Graysons.
Padma cuts her foot on glass in Nolan’s office. He comes in and asks her if tomorrow he is a nobody, will she still love him? Of course she says, she’ll love him no matter what. They are super cute! Nolan deserves to be happy, I hope they work out.
Emily goes to see Mason in jail. It’s time for him to pick his penance. Right nowEmily has it set up so that Mason will be convicted of bringing down the plane and murder. Emily wants Mason to plead guilty so there will be no trial. Mason said, you’re crazy! No way. Emily tells him you do this and write the real book this time. If you cooperate I’ll set you free when I deem the time is right. I’m the only one with the information that can do that. Mason agrees. I wonder how long he’ll actually be able to stand prison.
Conrad and Victoria think the Initiative took Kara out. Haha. They are really shook up and Conrad actually shows Victoria real affection. She’s stunned.
Aidan is waiting at the Clarke house to check on Emily. Speaking of genuine affection, you can tell Aidan really wants Emily to let him back in. This day has been way too much for Emily and she lets herself fall into Aidan’s arms. Finally!!!! I was super happy about that.
I was concerned with Amanda’s psycho reaction to Mason. That behavior can’t be good for Jack and the family. We also briefly meet Kenny’s brother Nate. He’s a piece of work. Kenny truly likes the Porter boys and is enjoying this work at the bar. Nate tells him not to forget the bigger picture. Trouble is coming for Jack and Declan.
What did you guys think about the Neiman Marcus, Target, Revenge commercials? I thought they were awesome. At first I thought it was part of the show. Those clothes were pretty sweet. I think they’ve convinced me to do some shopping. Although I don’t need much convincing.
