No-Spoiler Synopsis:

Sixty years ago, the Earth was attacked. We won the war, but we lost the planet. Devastating seismic events and the aftereffects of the war have drastically changed the landscape and as a result, the population of Earth was moved off-world to Titan. Two people remain, Jack Harper—technician to all the drones left to protect the technology needed to process the water of Earth for its removal to Titan; and Victoria—his eye in the sky. When a ship crashes to the surface, what happens to the survivors throws Jack into turmoil, making him question everything he knows.

Review:

I’m going to preface this review by stating that while I’m not the biggest fan of Tom Cruise, I can certainly overlook that fact in the interest of this movie.

The scenery in this film is stunning and at times, it made you wonder if Earth would one day come to look similar. The technology represented is believable enough (something I look for in a science fiction film) and the costuming of the remaining alien life left on earth is dramatic and thought provoking (never thought I’d say that about costumes…). There is a certain level of creepiness in the film that supports an end-of-the-world scenario and it’s something I appreciated as a fan of post-apocalyptic films.

Tom Cruise gives a believable performance, devoid of much of his overacting and slack facial expressions meant to convey more than they do, as Jack Harper but the standout performance goes to Morgan Freeman—is there anything this man cannot do in a role?

I don’t want to give too much more away as the film is something that really needs to be experienced. It packs a veritable punch that you see coming, but you don’t see coming. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
