Netflix gave the devil a new lease on life last year when the streaming giant picked up Lucifer following the show’s shocking cancellation at FOX. The highly anticipated Lucifer season 4 just dropped on Netflix on May 8 and it seems that the devil is perfectly at home.
Lucifer ended season 3 on a gigantic cliffhanger: After saving Chloe’s life, Lucifer finally revealed his Devil Face to her. There was no denying that he was telling the truth.
Then FOX cancelled the show.
It was a huge blow for Lucifer fans who wanted to find out what happened after the moment they had been waiting for. Thankfully, after a rally of fans around the world the show was saved at the last minute by Netflix.
Lucifer debuted on Netflix on May 8 with the release of all 10 episodes of the season. While the show is still playing by the same rules (no F-bombs or nudity beyond several looks at Tom Ellis’ derriere) there is a distinct new vibe that the show didn’t have before. It’s more polished, with incredibly choreographed fight scenes that are like art.
Season 4 reveals Chloe’s struggle to come to grips with the revelation that Lucifer really is the Devil, and while she deals with her own feelings Lucifer is confronted by a woman from his past: Eve. The rest of the gang is back and they’re all dealing with their own stories, and what’s great is that the longer format, coupled with the lack of commercials, allows writers to feature more screen time for the entire ensemble.
There’s no question that Lucifer’s new home is perfect for the show, and now fans await word of the show’s fate. Will it get a season 5? Only time will tell.
