There are few in the horror community that don’t know the name Dario Argento. Even those that don’t know his works. His masterpiece Suspiria would probably be the most well known. On November 2, 2018 Suspiria returns.
This isn’t Dario Argento’s Suspiria, though. This will be the work of Italian film director Luca Guadagnino. Luca has been nominated for a Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award just to name a few.
He is bringing back Tilda Swinton whom he has worked with on four other films. Luca is also bringing back Matthias Schoenaerts, Ralph Fiennes and Dakota Johnson, his main players from The Bigger Splash. Dakota Johnson is more famously known for her role of Anastasia Steele from the 50 Shades of Grey films. But, she has quite the horror pedigree being the granddaughter of Tippi Hedren.
One of the many aspects I took away from the 2018 trailer is Luca Guadagnino’s color scheme. While Dario Argento’s Suspiria was very prevalent with primary colors Luca’s version is wholly muted tones. This isn’t a bad thing at all. I personally look forward to what Dario’s influence is on Luca’s version of Suspiria.
