Lost Girl Recap: “Blood Lines”
Original Air Date on SyFy: Monday April 9, 2012
Season 1 Episode 13

It is a nearly innate feeling within us to want to know who and where we come from. We want a deep connection with the past and what led up to our existence. It validates us and can motivate our aspirations. We long to make our parents proud and win their admiration. The same can be said about our future. We want to be long remembered. We want our children to respect us for who we were and how we lived our lives. The example we set can either be one of regret or exemplary. We’d rather be the latter. And let’s face it…we all would like to be the offspring of genuinely good and decent parents because that would mean we are good and decent. Sometimes we have to accept the cards that were dealt to us and dissolve the notion that the past determines our future. This episode of Lost Girl reunites Bo with her mother, but it isn’t all rainbows and kittens.

Forced Peace

Dyson is growing tired of withholding information from Bo. He truly loves her. She deserves to know the truth because she is strong enough to handle it. Dyson breaks the news to Bo that Saskia is her mother, but her real name is Aife. He tells her that Aife belonged to the same Light clan as Trick long ago when the Light and Dark were at war. Trick is a blood sage and everything he writes in his blood comes to pass. As the Blood King, Trick created a forced peace. Aife led a small rebellion and killed one of the Dark Fae clan leaders. She was caught but escaped. Trick turned her in to the Dark Fae for execution. Trick admits to Bo when she questions him that what he did not know was that the Dark Fae did not execute her. Aife has hated Trick ever since this happened and he tells her that she is very dangerous. Bo knows that her mother is no angel but she would like to hear her side of the story. After Bo leaves hurt by their betrayal, Trick tells Dyson that he must keep her away from Aife. Dyson agrees to do this but this will be difficult since she is furious with him.

Bo knows that Lauren might be able to tell her how to defend herself against a succubus. Lauren agrees to help her so long as when things settle down she has a chance to explain her past actions. Bo reluctantly agrees. Kenzi is privately approached by Dyson who begs her to help him reconnect with Bo.

Himbos

When Bo returns home she is welcomed by the aroma of freshly baked cookies. Aife reintroduces herself to Bo as her long lost mother. Bo is on guard but delights in one of her mother’s cookies. It is drugged and she soon wakes up in a succubus’s dream world full of gorgeous men at their beck and call. Bo tells her mother that she doesn’t understand why she had to drug her and that she wants to have a relationship with her. Aife then blames her action as a side effect from the many years she was the Dark King’s own personal sex slave. She explains that after Trick turned her over to the Dark Fae for execution, the king bound her to him. She could not use her powers against him because he wore an amulet that binds Chi to the body. She also tells Bo that she hates the divide and wants to take down the Fae. It would please her if Bo joined her. Of course Bo rejects this and is free to leave so she does so.

Trick can no longer hide the fact that Aife is hell bent on seeking revenge. It is known that she is dangerous. She recently killed a Fae elder named Ellis. Trick goes to the Ash and alerts him to the danger. The Ash is upset that Trick didn’t tell him sooner. The Ash plans on calling a council meeting to discuss the matter. At the meeting the Ash and other elders begin a discussion but are interrupted by one of Aife’s thralls. He eagerly exposes the bomb strapped to his body just as it detonates.

Vanished

Panic and chaos fills the Light Fae medical facility. The Ash is badly injured. Bo arrives and asks Lauren if she has found something to help her stop Aife’s rampage. Lauren directs her to an amulet that will protect her. Bo makes certain that Kenzi does not follow her. Simultaneously Bo returns to fight off Aife, while Dyson sacrifices his wolf to the Norn to protect Bo, and Trick writes a protective passage in a book with his blood. Bo is conflicted as she watches her mother fall to her death. She had wanted to stop her, not kill her. When she rushes to be by her mother’s body it has vanished. Dyson thought he was giving up his wolf to protect Bo, but the Norn took his love for Bo out of him instead. He will now no longer be in love with Bo. What a pity.

Quotable Quotes:

Kenzi to Bo:  “You just got succu-busted!”

Bo to Lauren: “How do succubi fight one another?”

Kenzi to Bo: “Slow motion pillow fights? Crotch lasers?”

Bo to Aife: “Right. So…what you, me, and your himbo army…we’re gonna take down the Fae as they flee from us and our male models?”

Aife to Bo: “They do more than mix mama drinks.”
