Get to know Dark Media’s newest contributor, Bernie Monsanto.
I have been given a chance to contribute to this fine website, so I thought a quick introduction of myself and what to expect from me might be in order. So without further ado, my name is Bernie. In a lot of the gaming communities I have also used the name “Xangpow”. There IS a story behind that name but that is a story for another time. You can also find me on Twitter under the handle ZF_Bernie and on Instagram with the same handle.
Now for some more personal things about myself. I refer to myself as a general geek and an omnigamer. So what does that mean? It means I don’t focus on one or two aspects of geek culture. While I have many interests, my main ones could be said to include Star Wars, video games, and technology. Yet, I am interested in so much more.
- I am a Trekkie, a Browncoat and a Whovian.
- I love talking about ancient history, the future of technology and what is really out there.
- I have built three computers, have a vast sword collection and a library of books that I love, both physical and digital.
- I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons, reading comic books, and playing board games.
That, my friend, is what I would call a “general geek.” A lot of people would read that and think, “Hey, I’m also interested in all that.” Then you would also be a general geek, and we can be friends. There are a few other things I am interested in but those are just the ones that come to mind. Like I said, this is just a quick introduction.
At this time, let’s talk about this “omnigamer” title I have given myself. The term came to me from the board gaming community which, as far as I can tell, means they will play any board game. I use it in the context to mean I play ANY game; board game, card game, role playing game, video game. I even tried playing LARPing, but once again that is a story for another time.
As I promised, that is my short introduction of who I am and what you can expect from my articles.
