Fans of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (who have been waiting to see images of the 16th President of the United States in all his vampire hunting glory) can rejoice. This week, Twentieth Century Fox, in cooperation with Entertainment Weekly, released an incredible shot of “Honest Abe” wielding his menacing vampire-hunting axe.
Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D stars actor Benjamin Walker as the re-imagined historical figure. “It’s not a sermon in any way, but it is interesting to look at vampires as the all-encompassing, unspeakable, unknowable evil,” Benjamin Walker told Entertainment Weekly. “This evil moves among us, and maybe lives next door. It’s an ideology that we don’t fully understand, but they live by it.”
“It’s told through the structure of Lincoln’s actual life. You not only see these huge fight scenes and great moments of drama, but you get sort of the greatest hits of Lincoln’s life, from the mysterious death of his mother through the Gettysburg address,” he continued. “You get a portrait of this man, as well as a thriller.”
Lincoln also stars Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Robin McLeavy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson, Alan Tudyk, and is produced by none other than Tim Burton.
Do the vampires stand a chance? We’ll have to wait and see.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D opens on June 22 of this year.
