by Solomon J Inkwell:
Madison Greene is a typical troubled teen living in London with her brother, Ben, in a foster home. After inheriting wealth and freedom, she moves into her new home to discover that she has vampires in her basement (talk about pests! And we thought mice were bad).
In 19th century, Alexandre Chevalier ventures on an archaeological expedition. Despite warnings from the local residents, he goes into the village of Cappadocia to discover an underground city of vampires who bring him into the fold.
Their worlds unite in a romantic tale that spans the ages.
I enjoyed this selection by Boland. Though at first the pacing is a bit challenging, the author does a great job at detailing her story between the two eras and bringing the characters together at just the right moment. I also enjoyed the fact that these vampires are more traditional, mythical, and scarier. Boland writes great adventure and paints wonderful portraits of her worlds. It is easy to get lost in the story and allow it to carry you along.
Regretfully, the romance itself is not so unique. Beautiful yet typical, the love story carries parallels to the popular “Twilight” series, even down to the line “You are my life now.” I was less moved by the passion and more by the history of these two characters.
