Ghost Adventures Recap:
“Central Unit Prison”
Original Air Date (Travel Channel):
Friday September 14, 2012
Season 7 Episode 1
Location
The Ghost Adventures crew is allowed exclusive admittance to a recently abandoned prison in Sugar Land, Texas.
History
In 1838, Sugar Land, Texas was developed as sugar cane, corn, and cotton plantations. The end of the Civil War caused this land to fall behind. The state didn’t have enough funding to create a prison system, so convicts were leased out to work the plantations to serve time. Eventually, a prison system was set in place. In 1932,the Central Unit Prison was established. Due to massive budget shortfalls, the prison was shut down in 2011, a mere 6 months prior to this episode’s investigation.
Shocking
The crew visits the nearby Texas Prison Museum to investigate an electric chair that was responsible for the executions of 361 inmates from 1924 to 1964 at the Central Prison Unit. Zak attaches a Mel Meter to a pole and tries to take a reading of any fluctuations. While he is doing that, Nick holds out a digital voice recorder and asks:
Nick: “What was it like to have that jolt of electricity go through your body?”
Digital Recorder E.V.P.: “I was shocked.” (Or “I was shot.”)
Zak then tries to communicate with the SB-7 Spirit Box.
Zak: “Is there anybody here that wants to talk?”
SB-7 Device: “Yeah!”
The Lockdown
The Central Unit Prison is scheduled to be torn down within the coming year and so Ghost Adventures is truly the only paranormal group that will ever be able to investigate within the walls of this prison. What also makes this investigation unique is that there are limited stories from former inmates and employees to share about any paranormal experience they have had or could have caused any haunts to occur. One employee that did share talked about how a female employee was scared to be in the administrative copier room because she often experienced the sensation of a hand on her shoulder. Another interview Zak was able to land was with a father of a former inmate who described life in this prison as the worst prison he ever experienced. The father also shares that he knows about a particular inmate who was thrown into solitary confinement even after expressing suicidal feelings. That inmate followed through with the threat and hung himself inside his tiny cell.
The crew starts off this “blind” investigation in the inmate dorms. Things quickly spring into action when they hear a loud bang coming from the administration room. Zak picks up radical fluctuations on the Mel Meter and feels a cold blast of air around him. The “X” camera begins to go in and out of focus for no explainable reason. Upon review it is discovered that Aaron captured on camera a dark shadow figure walking behind Zak. It is during this time that things begin to get unsettling for Nick.
Nick describes to Zak and Aaron that he is feeling weak and drained. He ultimately needs to take a break from the investigation to shake the overwhelming feeling of sadness and anger that has taken hold of him.
The “X”camera that is set up in solitary confinement is later reviewed and discovered that an E.V.P. has been recorded:
“X”camera audio: “Water.”
While Nick resigns to rest for a bit, Billy Tolley takes his place. Aaron shoots a couple of full spectrum photos and captures images of a partial apparition of a human figure. Zak decides now to get out the SB-7 and hears:
SB-7 Device: “In here!”
Zak: “What do you want to do to us?”
SB-7 Device: “He was hurt.”
Zak, Aaron, and Billy then feel an extremely intense cold spot and hear:
SB-7 Device: “Got me.”
Zak somehow manages to convince Nick to rejoin the investigation, hoping that whatever entity that has been disturbing Nick will reveal itself. Zak begins to us the thermal imaging camera and is shocked to see shapes moving and undulating through the display on the camera. This strikes Zak as possibly peeking into some sort of portal.
Aaron makes his way over to the shower room. Instantly Aaron hears several loud bangs. He gets out the Ovilus II and hears:
Ovilus II: “Goodbye.”
More loud bangs occur and the “X” camera that is stationary begins to move and vibrate.
Quotable Quotes
Zak to the camera: “Every person has a story. Every ghost has a bigger story because they need to tell us something.”
Nick to Zak: “It was the worst thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.”
