First look at the ship in the new Star Trek television series, Star Trek: Discovery, revealed at San Diego Comic Con

Dark Media had the opportunity to sit in on the Star Trek 50th Anniversary press junket at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday. The panelists included William Shatner, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, Michael Dorn, Scott Bakula, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Bryan Fuller.

The new Star Trek series, called Star Trek: Discovery after the name of the ship in the series, premieres in January 2017 on CBS, and then will air exclusively on CBS All Access.

Star Trek’s 50th anniversary was commemorated at the Star Trek 20th Anniversary panel in Hall H at SDCC, and several of the panelists talked about how Star Trek has inspired others, as well as how the people who grew up as fans inspire them. Brent Spiner got to meet the crew of the Mercury mission, while Scott Bakula got to talk to an astronaut aboard the International Space Station. William Shatner marveled at how a simple television series could have such a far reaching effect, while both Jeri Ryan and Bryan Fuller expressed their hope that our world will look more like Star Trek in light of recent tragedies across the nation.

Watch for more news from the Star Trek 50th press room coming soon.
