Review:

This was a fantastic post-apocalyptic film. The cinematography is astounding and how the team who worked on the film were able to envision such a stark landscape is awe-inspiring. As I watched it, I found myself getting lost in the vistas and my imagination working overtime to put it all into the context of the world we know now.

The premise, while a little clichéd at times, was still fresh overall and engaging. It was different enough from many of the other films and books I’ve devoured in the genre to keep me on the edge of my seat. There are also some great moments that will give you a start—a requisite in any good horror film. I had I heard this was a Zombie film, but I was glad to discover it wasn’t. It leads you in that direction in some instances, but the surprise is a little more unsettling than that.

Laurence Fishburne and Bill Paxton both give great performances and the tension between their two characters is palpable. You get the sense from their body language that much of the conflict they have now, started long before the world froze. Kevin Zegers (who I admittedly haven’t seen in too much) was very good as well. In fact, the ensemble cast as a whole gave the film the correct level of desolation and desperation a film like this needs.
