Being Human Recap: “These Teens They Are a Changin”
Original Air Date (SyFy): Monday January 28, 2013
Season 3 Episode 3

Belonging

As human beings, we have this innate desire to belong…to fit in…to be a part of a group and family. It gives us purpose and a reason to carry on a legacy. We feel the sense of comfort and unconditional love and acceptance. Whether or not these are blood ties, or simply a connection to our past, people grasp for familiarity to feel grounded. In this episode of Being Human, Aidan struggles to hold on to the only person left in his past, Henry, while Sally learns to accept that all ties to her former life needs to be cut. Nora connects with a young lady whose situation mimics her own, while Josh faces an unexpected and awkward isolation.

After searching relentlessly all day, Josh and Sally are relieved when Nora returns home safely after tearing through her storage unit during her wolf transformation. She tells Josh that the father of the purebred wolf twins, Liam, forced her to turn with him. Liam is desperate to find his daughter, Brynn. Bonding with Nora helped him feel closer to Brynn.

Three Weeks Later…

Three weeks have passed, and we see Aidan and Henry hitting the streets to try and score some untainted human blood to replenish their undying hunger. They are starving and desperate. Aidan tries to confidently reassure Henry that he will get through this dry spell. Out of options, Aidan asks Josh to help him out. Josh is overwhelmed by the request because Sally is eating them all out of house and home with her own guilt ridden appetite over causing Trent’s death…so now he must find some flu-free humans for the vampires to feast on. Aidan promises Josh a “catch and release” feed. After much thought, Josh finds a suitable meal and points Aidan in the right direction. By the time Aidan guides Henry to their next meal, he realizes it is too late. Henry has succumbed to the thirst with an infected human. He is now violently ill. Henry tearfully spills his feelings of inadequacy of being a good “son” to Aidan, but breaks Aidan’s heart when he tells him that everyone that loves Aidan always ends up dying. Henry has had enough, and leaves Aidan.

Sally wrestles with guilt after causing Trent’s death. She wants to make things right so he heads down to the funeral home where Trent’s body is being prepared for his funeral. Trent is now a very resentful ghost. He is extremely upset over Sally’s lack of discretion, which caused his untimely death. Sally explains to Trent that he has some unresolved issues that need settling so that he may cross over. The only thing that Trent can think to resolve is to admit to his fiancée that he had this mini affair, but that he loved her. Sally agrees to talk to his fiancée, Candace. When Sally locates Candace, she admits the affair, but Candace is more relieved than anything because she admits that she was having an affair, too. This settles her heart, and eventually Trent’s because soon after, his door appears, but when he crosses the threshold it is not what he expects. Waiting on the other side is Donna, the witch. She shreds Trent’s soul and eats it.

Josh: Odd Man Out

“Be careful what you wish for.” Poor Josh is quickly becoming well acquainted with that sentiment. Being human has actually isolated him. He is now the odd man out…the freak…the weirdo…because everyone else in the house has some sort of supernatural condition. Over and over again he is told that he “is not one of them anymore.” So I guess that since his curse has been lifted he must no longer understand his best friends anymore? Josh is operating solely on empathy. After he somehow manages to feed Aidan, Sally, and Henry, he tends to the needs of Nora. She is completely taken in by a troubled teenage girl named Erin. Turns out that while Erin was out nearly a month ago, she was attacked by a large dog that resembled a wolf. Josh takes a look at her scratches in the examination room and recognizes it as a werewolf attack. Nora begs Josh to let this troubled foster child stay with them, so that they can let her know what her fate is, and how to handle it. Josh and Nora take Erin out into the woods for the transformation. Josh retreats to his car while the ladies wolf-out, where he is armed with a gun just in case Erin attacks him. Erin nearly tries to get to Josh, but Nora is able to distract Erin. The two wolf-ladies seem to be bonding quickly, leaving Josh to feel even more isolated than before.

Quotable Quotes

Liam to Nora: “Humans are the only animals with a death wish.”

Liam to Nora: “There is no worse sin than turning on one of your own.”

Henry to Aidan: “Everyone who loves you dies.”
