Banshee S2E3 “The Warrior Class” Recap

Banshee (Cinemax) Comments Off on Banshee S2E3 “The Warrior Class” Recap

The third episode of Banshee’s second season, titled ‘The Warrior Class’ is briefly tagged as: “Relations between the Kinaho tribe and the Amish are fractured by a shocking murder; Carrie receives an unexpected visit.” Seems run of the mill right? Wrong…

In the beginning of the episode, Carrie gets her visit. It’s Lucas. Not so unexpected in my book, but unexpected from her point of view. You see, she never went to visit Lucas when he was in prison so I guess she never expected him to come out to see her. But he’s Lucas and despite his numerous escapades with other women, one cannot help but see that he’s really and truly in love with her.

Then the real crux of the episode’s story begins with a wedding ceremony in the Amish community interspersed with conversation between two young people: one Amish, the other Kinaho. There’s talk of the two of them escaping together and a little kissing, but the story soon diverts from them. Upon returning home from the wedding which got rained out, Rebecca’s father and mother discover that her brother is not in the house. Worried, the father goes in search of him and finds the Kinaho girl bludgeoned to death in the field.

Enter the police who can see that the girl was murdered. They learn her name is Lana Cleary and that her ‘boyfriend’, Solomon Bowman is missing. Tensions rise as the gathered Kinaho tribe members accuse the Amish of secreting the killer—Solomon—away. As extra State Troopers are brought in to help with the investigation, Lucas and his merry (read: reluctant) officers take a trip to the Kinaho reservation to speak with a young man who sent nasty emails to Lana when he discovered she was dating Solomon. As per Banshee’s usual style, a fight ensues and it takes 3 officers to bring down Chayton Littlestone, the leader of the Kinaho gang. Turns out, it’s Chayton’s little brother Tommy who sent those emails to Lana before her death.

Back at Cadi, while Tommy is being questioned the new District Attorney is introduced. She seems a little harder than Gordon, who is acting as mayor in the interim, but we’ll have to see where her character goes from here. Alex storms in and stops the interview, taking Tommy away but Chayton gets to stay in jail a little longer as he’s wanted on charges elsewhere.

When Rebecca and Proctor learn that Solomon is missing, they go to Cadi to talk to Lucas, imploring him to help find her brother. They then visit the Amish in the hopes that they can glean any information from them as to Solomon’s whereabouts. Rebecca spies another young Amish girl and approaches her. She’s told to go and wait by the bridge on the river where the boys used to fish, and the girl will meet her there so they can talk. Rebecca leaves and as she does, Kinaho tribesmen speed across the fields toward the Amish men, intent on making trouble. Proctor singlehandedly brings a few of them to their knees and they decide to leave. It’s a good thing for them because Proctor is one seriously skilled fighter!

In the woods, Rebecca is attacked but she manages to get away. Escaping the woods, she runs onto the road and directly into the arms of Lucas who then pursues her attacker. He’s attacked from behind, hit over the head with a branch and as he’s lying on the ground, dizzy from the blow, he squeezes off a few shots – at least one of them hitting the hooded attacker in the leg. Coming out the woods, Siobhan sees he’s in trouble and forces him to take a break. She takes him ‘home’ (read: her trailer) to make him dinner and then the two of them act on their long seated sexual tension.

An interesting facet, and one I was personally waiting for, finally strolled into town in this episode. Jason Hood, Lucas Hood’s son has come looking for his father, only Lucas is impersonating him. There are a few tense moments, but Jason promises not to expose him as long as Lucas helps in getting him a new identity. Seems Jason has a reason to disappear…

So who killed Lana? Where is Solomon? And why did Nola visit the dead girl’s body in the morgue? Did she have something to do with the death; a way to force Proctor’s hand concerning the hotel in some way? And who was the attacker in the woods? Sometime is definitely going on that we’re not aware of yet, but I’m excited to find out.
