Banshee S2E1 “Little Fish” Recap

Banshee (Cinemax) Comments Off on Banshee S2E1 “Little Fish” Recap

So where did we leave off at the end of Season 1? Essentially, after Proctor saved Lucas’ ass at Cadi, he (Lucas) offers himself to Rabbit in exchange for Max (Carrie’s son who was kidnapped by Rabbit, Carrie’s estranged and criminal father). When Carrie finds out what’s happened, she gathers Job and Sugar in preparation for storming the metal works (Job had a tracking bug in Lucas’ cellphone). On their way, they meet up with Brock, Siobhan and Yawners who are convinced to join in the rescue attempt. Once at the metal works carnage ensues with Brock and Sugar both getting shot and Carrie racking up the kills. Rabbit continues to torture Lucas and stabs him in the stomach, prompting Carrie to shoot him twice, once in the shoulder and once in the face. While everyone is recuperating, it’s discovered that Rabbit’s body is not at the metal works.

In the other concurrent story line, Procter is attacked by Thompson, Proctor’s former bodyguard and gambling addict. He’d subdued and it appears that we’ve lost Burton – Proctor’s crazy assistant and my favourite character (I do hope he’s not dead!). In retaliation, Proctor sends Thompson’s head to Alex Longshadow as a message and Nola, Alex’ sister decides she needs to stay in Banshee a little longer. Later, Proctor and Rebecca are standing in front of the under-construction casino hotel and he makes her an accessory to his crime when he has her unknowingly blow up the building by making a call. Unknowingly, the mayor of Banshee was inside at the time.

On a related note, the Moody brothers find a shallow grave while out hunting and subsequent investigation reveals there are more bodies buried in close proximity. The police department learns a special investigator is coming to town to ferret out the truth of the metal work massacre. And no one knows the body they’ve dug up is the real Lucas Hood!

And so starts Season 2… I cannot tell you how excited I am for this season!!

One big to note, and if you watch Banshee you’ll know what I mean. At the beginning of each episode, a lock spins, stopping on specific numbers. Last season’s combination was revealed to contain hints about what would occur. If you haven’t seen the video yet, check it out at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkGbVdwEk48. I managed to get 3 of the 4 numbers in the opening sequence for Season 2—62-8-30-?—and I cannot wait to offer conjecture for what they might mean in the coming weeks!

So where do we start? Well Lucas is having hallucinations of Rabbit as he recuperates and I have to wonder if I can really blame him. Rabbit’s certainly not the kind of character I’d like to have in my life’s story. A new investigator rolls into town—Agent Racine, played by Zeljko Ivanek of Oz (The Series) fame as well as many, many others—and his first order of business is to get to the bottom of what happened at the metal works and who is to blame. It’s revealed that he’d got a bit of a hard-on for Rabbit so I’m sure we’ll discover what the history between the two is in the coming episodes.

At the conclusion of his investigation, which amounted to a discussion with each of the participants of the massacre, at least the ones still alive, Lucas is off the hook, Brock, Siobhan, and Yawners are all placed on varying degrees of probation and it looks like Carrie is going to have to take the fall for it all. Essentially all Racine really wants is Rabbit.

When the police force returns to Cadi for the first time it’s an emotional experience and Brock seems a little distrustful of Lucas. It’s okay though, Gordon’s asked him to keep an eye on and report back if Lucas steps out of line.

Rebecca makes the final decision to leave the Amish for good, embracing a different style of life. I have to say that her choice in clothing for lounging around at home seems a little odd, especially since she lives with her uncle, but who am I to judge? Proctor doesn’t feature too much in this episode, but I’m sure he’s got a few things up his sleeve in the coming episodes. You can’t turn a bad man good that quickly and given his delightfully nefarious ways, they’re not likely to change him at all.

Lucas, Carrie, Job and Sugar pull a job—robbing a moving armoured car. If you want to see some awesome action footage on television, I’d suggest you watch this episode. It was awesome!! They manage to get away with quite a few bags of money but end up being pursued by a figure on a motorcycle. There’s a shootout, but they do get away, albeit with only one bag of cash. They’ve pulled the job because Carrie is broke and needs the money to try and fight Gordon for access to Deva and Max.

Job and Sugar steal the body of the real Lucas Hood and rebury it – they can’t have anyone figuring out just who Lucas really is (something I still find intriguing since we have no idea who the man pretending to be Lucas really was…). We also see Rabbit wake up in the forest, badly wounded but alive (obviously if he woke up). I wonder what’s in store for Rabbit and if he really will make it. It’ll also be interesting to see what he does to exact revenge on those who tried to kill him.

Alex Longshadow’s experiencing a little bit of pressure from his tribe. With the destruction of the casino hotel, the elders seem to think he shouldn’t be leading the tribe. The insurance isn’t going to pay, so there’s just a little bit of conflict. Add to that the armoured car heist and things are going pretty badly for him.

Nola takes it upon herself to seduce Lucas which is definitely going to prove interesting if she finds out about him and what he’s been up to. There’s a lot of talk of the diamonds, the original robbery that sent Lucas to jail before the events that start the series; Job wants him to cash them in and leave and Sugar thinks it’s a good idea as well, even at the reduced price he’d likely get for them.

At the end of the episode, Racine takes a trip to visit a priest (played by an actor who is familiar to me but I can’t place just yet) in NYC. The priest it turns out is Rabbit’s brother and there’s something a little odd about that…

The season is off to a great start and I can’t wait until next Friday!!
