Arrow Recap: “Unfinished Business”
Original Air Date (CW): Wednesday, April 4, 2013
Season 1 Episode 19

WARNING: This article contains spoilers.

Vertigo is back on the streets of Starling City. But when Oliver thinks that The Count is the culprit, he ends up discovering the mind-altering truth.

Oliver had a previous encounter with The Count back in January’s “Vertigo” episode, which resulted in Thea almost overdosing and The Count being placed in a mental institution. In this week’s “Unfinished Business,” The Count is still in the looney bin, but the drug Vertigo is still out there. How do we know? Because a girl takes the substance at Verdant, Oliver’s club.

When the girl starts feeling Vertigo’s effects, she starts hallucinating, thinking she is on the dance floor, when in reality, she is walking in the middle of a busy street. As honking cars try to dodge the girl, she ends up getting hit and dies. This leads to Oliver paying The Count a little visit. But Oliver quickly realizes that The Count is clearly not with it.

Later on, a news report says that The Count escaped from where he was being held, leading Oliver to believe that the The Count was a big, fat faker all along. Or was he? As it turns out, The Count wasn’t faking it. Instead, The Count’s doctor was the mastermind behind the newest batch of Vertigo hitting the streets. The Doctor claimed that he needed the money–something a billionaire like Oliver wouldn’t understand. Oliver eventually kills the drug-pushing doctor and attempts to put an end to The Count as well, but sees that he is truly insane and spares his life.

Somehow in all this mess, Tommy Merlyn found himself thrown into to the mix. Detective Lance discovers that the woman who died after leaving the club texted Tommy before her untimely demise. Detective Lance also learns that Tommy paid off a contractor. This prompts an intense investigation by Detective Lance, which included a search warrant for the club. This almost gave away the Arrow Cave. Luckily for Oliver, Tommy did a little Spring cleaning and concealed his “pal’s” secret.

Tommy ends up quitting the club because of the whole ordeal, and seeks employment with his father, Malcolm, who welcomes him with open arms.

Oliver wasn’t the only one who had unfinished business this week. Diggle also had an axe to grind–actually it was more of a Vendetta. Oliver’s right hand man was trying to track down Deadshot, the man who killed his brother and is making his life a living hell. There was no resolution to Diggle’s efforts, so I’m sure we will be revisiting this sometime soon.

If all that wasn’t enough, we learn how Oliver developed his bow and arrow talents. In the flashback scenes, we see Yao Fei’s daughter, Shadow, training Oliver. Apparently, if you continuously smack a bowl full of water, you can become an excellent marksman.

There are only four more episodes left of Arrow. I know everyone is equally as upset as I am, right? Anyway, the show is going on a mini-break for a few weeks and will return April 24 with “Home Invasion.”

Until next time, see you later, Arrow Heads.
