Arrow Recap: “The Odyssey”

Since Arrow shot onto my TV screen, I’ve been waiting for an episode like this–one that primarily features the island that Oliver was stranded on for years.

“Odyssey” starts off where last week’s episode ended–with “The Hood” telling Moira Queen that she “has failed this city”. After pleading with “The Hood” to spare her, telling him that she has a son and daughter, Moira strikes a chord with the vigilante, who puts down his bow, but ends up getting shot by Moira.

After the shot heard around the Arrow world, Oliver has no choice but to ask for help from an unlikely source–Felicity. Uh-oh… now she knows his identity! Looks like the team is going to have a new recruit (at least for now).

Oliver tells Felicity to take him back to his hideout in The Glades. Once there, Diggle becomes doctor and removes the bullet from Oliver’s body.

During this impromptu surgery, we are taken back to the island where we get a great story about a mission to get back home. I don’t want to reveal what happens, because it is really worth watching.

Towards the end of the episode, Oliver tries to justify his mother’s actions to Diggle by telling him that she was scared, and was defending herself. Oliver says that he doesn’t know why people do the things that they do. He went on to say that he has taken down a lot of bad people, but none of them brought up their kids.

Like I said, “Odyssey” was everything I’ve been waiting for in this show. For months, we have been teased with flashback after flashback, and finally we get a show that puts the island in the spotlight while Starling City takes a backseat. I definitely recommend watching this episode… then watch it again! You won’t be disappointed.
