Arrow Recap: “The Huntress Returns”
Original Air Date (CW): Wednesday, March 20, 2013
Season 1 Episode 17
WARNING: This article contains spoilers.
As the title suggests, The Huntress has indeed returned and she has put Oliver in a tough situation.
Helena was the main focus of this episode. She is hellbent in her vendetta against her father, Frank, and asks Oliver for help. In order to persuade her former fling, Helena uses a little leverage: those close to him. In particular, Tommy.
After reluctantly agreeing, the two set out on a mission to find Frank. They follow two armored trucks, separately–one which they believe is carrying Helena’s father, the other, a decoy. Things, however, take a turn for the worst (for The Huntress), as both trucks prove to be Frank-less. Detective Lance and Detective McKenna end up arresting Helena as part of a well designed trap. At the police station, Helena is being interrogated by Lance. He wants to know who “The Hood” is, and is offering leniency in return for the answer to his billion dollar question. As she tries to reveal Oliver’s secret identity, he breaks into the police department and breaks her out. Phew… that was a close one!
Oliver tells Helena to leave his city, but of course, she doesn’t listen. Instead of leaving, she infiltrates the Arrow Cave and forces Felicity to hack into the FBI database to find Frank’s location. This brought us to the climax of the episode, which saw Oliver and Helena face-off. During their battle, there was one casualty–Detective McKenna, who arrived on scene without backup and was shot by Helena. Don’t worry, she didn’t die. But she does decide to move to Coast City to be with her sister during her rehab.
For those of you who don’t know what Coast City is, in the comics, it is where another green hero resides–Hal Jordan, better known as Green Lantern.
Speaking of comics books, another well known character made his second show appearance here: Roy Harper. After Thea bumps into him in The Glades, she offers to help get him a job at Oliver’s new nightclub. After Roy doesn’t show up for his first day, Thea goes to his home to question why he would play hookie. While she is leaving his neighborhood, she is approached by two men who appear as a threat. Roy jumps in and pummels the men, but in turn, gets stabbed. At the hospital, Roy is about to get stitched up, but right before the doctor can get to work, Roy shows that he has an issue with needles (he was a junkie in the comics… this could have something to do with that). To ease his mind, Thea lays a big kiss on him… that did the trick!
After a two-week break, I was very anxious to see a new episode of Arrow. If you watched “Dead to Rights,” then you know that a lot went down, and left fans salivating for more.
In “The Huntress Returns,” we do see more of a development in the whole Laurel’s sister might be alive thing. We also see how Tommy is dealing with the bombshell that was dropped into his lap: Oliver being the vigilante.
The island was used very sparingly here. Despite that, the few flashbacks that were shown proved to be very important, as Oliver and Slade may have found a way to finally get off the island.
Next week is another all-new episode entitled, “Salvation”.
Below is a sneak peek.
See you next time, Arrow Heads.
