We have a week until season 2 and I’ve been cramming season 1 on Netflix. What a fantastic cast of characters! If you’re going to jump on the Revenge train, and you certainly should, here’s a very quick recap of what was happening in season 1:
The lovely Emily Thorne arrives in the Hamptons as a seemingly innocent newcomer with money to burn. Her friend Ashley works for the movers and the shakers in the area so she has an instant in. However, Emily is really Amanda Clarke. Amanda has come back to exact Revenge on those who destroyed her, and her father’s lives some seventeen years ago.
Emily/Amanda’s plans are very well thought out and she begins immediately taking people down. She has a picture, hidden in a box that contains all she has left of her father. She uses this to cross off her, dare I say, victims. Starting the show you obviously side with Emily/Amanda but as you watch the carnage she leaves in her wake, you can’t help but feel a little bit for the others.
The “others” consist of the Grayson family and their friends and cohorts. The Grayson’s seem to be “the” family. They call all the shots and no one can do anything without their help or say so. Victoria Grayson is the head of this household. Emily/Amanda throws a wrench into Victoria’s marriage with Conrad by innocently exposing an affair he had been having with her best friend Lydia. Conrad barely survives Victoria’s wrath, while Lydia is exiled from the Hamptons. Victoria tries to dig into the mysterious Emily’s past but has a difficult time getting information.
Now, Emily/Amanda arrived with a clear head, full of cold revenge. Seeing her childhood home, where she had so many memories and friends has brought up more emotion than I think she expected. Enter Jake Porter. Jake loved Amanda back when they were kids and considering his boat is named “Amanda” I don’t think he’s over her yet. He is sugary sweet and Amanda needs to avoid him if she wants to keep her revenge on track. The more time she spends there, the chances her cover will be blown keep going up. She was called out one of her first days there by an old school friend Nolan Ross. Emily/Amanda grudgingly lets him be her ally.
To get the full effect of all that has happened, catch season 1. It is worth it. The characters are interesting and well-written. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and has made a trip to the Hamptons on my bucket list. If you can’t watch it all before Sunday the 30th don’t worry. Just start watching season 2 with me and you’ll discussing the happenings over the water cooler before you know it!
