The following contains spoilers for American Horror Story: Asylum
It was a big night for American Horror Story this week, as we said goodbye to both Sister Mary Eunice and the devil himself. With only a supporting role last season, actress Lily Rabe was truly a tour de force this time around, as the innocent nun turned pawn for the devil. On Sister Mary Eunice’s death this week, showrunner and co-creator Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly the last thing he wanted was for Mary Eunice to die alone:
“We didn’t want ‘she dies and the devil goes into someone else’. I liked the idea that the only thing more powerful than the devil is the Angel of Death (played by Frances Conroy), which is actually the cousin of the devil.”
Yesterday, Rabe herself spoke with EW.com on her final episode this season, and whether or not she’s up for a third.
“Well, it seemed sort of wonderfully fitting,” she said about Arden’s suicide as he joined her in the incinerator. “There were lots of Shakespeare references when we got that script because sit around and talk about Shakespeare all the time so we thought, “How perfect!” But to me they do have this sort of very bizarre American Horror Story love story. I think that it was wonderful. I think it was perfect in its own crazy way. It was very true to the show.”
When asked about Season 3, she showed the same willingness all cast members of AHS seem to share; faith in Ryan Murphy’s vision, and his ability to consistently keep the content fresh and exciting.
”I would. I would do pretty much anything for Ryan Murphy . You just know you’re not gonna get that first script and think, “Oh this is going to be boring.” When you have that kind of relationship with someone and just someone who inspires you and sees you, you just wanna keep working with them in whatever way.”
Stay tuned… DarkMedia will be talking with Lily Rabe about her work on American Horror Story next week. And in case you missed it, check out our featured interviews with Zachary Quinto and Jessica Lange.
