2012 San Diego Comic-Con: Day 2

by Sarabeth Pollock:

July 13th: It’s Friday the 13th at Comic-Con and it was a lucky day for celebrity sightings.  Seen on the con floor today: Gene Simmons, Brent Spiner, Cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Kevin Sorbo, Guillermo del Toro, and LeVar Burton (but you don’t have to take my word for it…), among others.

Given the fact that I’ll be spending Friday night into the wee hours of Saturday morning waiting in line for Ballroom 20, I spent most of the day in the exhibit hall.  After making the rounds first thing in the morning in the endless quest for swag, I went to the IDW Publishing booth to meet the writers and artists who work on the Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover comic.  They were awesome guys. (Tomorrow the True Blood comic writers will be signing, but I’ll be stuck in line for the panel…)

Met up with fellow Truebies @TrueBloodComics and @RynBlair at the IDW booth.  Together we went to Artists Alley, where they introduced me to True Blood comic artist Joe Corroney, whose work was featured in Tainted Love and The French Quarter.

One thing about Comic-Con is that you make a plan, then you have plans A, B, and C…but you usually end up doing D or E by the time you get there.  I had planned to see Falling Skies, but the room filled up so I ended up back in the Exhibit Hall.  That was when I saw Gene Simmons, so I guess that makes up for it.  As you can see from the pictures, today was a great day for costumes.  People are so creative—from The Dude to She-Ra, from the obligatory Storm Troopers to (in my opinion) the best way to get children through Comic-Con.

Once the exhibit hall closed I went to the Dark Matters panel, and John Noble (Walter Bishop from Fringe) was there.  Dark Matters is like Mythbusters only with scientific mysteries.  Afterwards, I stayed for part of the Klingon Lifestyle Presentation.  Yes.  You heard me correctly.

Outside I took the time to go see all six Batmobiles on display on the lawn between the Convention Center and the Hilton.

It was a long day…but I needed to pack as much in because I’ll be in Ballroom 20 all day on Saturday in anticipation of the True Blood panel at 4:30pm.  Watch for live Twitter coverage!
